Who doesn’t want to search for “the tone”…you know, that sweet mix of different effects, the perfect mix of reverb and chorus, etc. But before continuing I just have to say that with separate pedals, that can get really expensive really fast…
This is exactly when guitar amps with built-in effects step in. Not everyone has the cash or even desire to fill their jam-house with a pedal board and extra pedals just because you can’t ever have enough. Some people just want a versatile, great-sounding, and simple-to-use amp that offers a nice variety of built-in effects.
Personally, I have been using guitar amps with effects since 2015. They can for sure make a bedroom guitarist happy. If in search of an acoustic guitar amplifier with a nice repertoire of effects, Fender Acoustic Junior is one of the options available. It’s a powerful (100W) amp with 2 channels that make it suitable for vocalists and acoustic guitar players alike.
I left guitar amplifiers with only Reverb or Delay out from this list (for example Orange Crush 20RT). We want to see guitar amps with several effects, not just amps with “effect”.

What I like

BOSS Katana MKii is the best guitar amp under $500 to me. As matter of fact, I’m writing this next to my own beloved Katana 50 Mkii…I will continue jamming after finishing this article for you. If you value having tons of effects right at your fingertips and have no desire to buy almost any pedals, I would say that guitar amps with built-in effects are definitely worth it. Nowadays, guitar amps have so many great-sounding built-in effects available that if you are not a pedal-lover, you are not missing out much. I have used guitar amps with effects since 2015, and they have 110% been worth it for me.

- Not many really cheap guitar amps with a nice amount of different effects available
- Not all amps with effects are easy to use
- Sometimes effects don’t sound as good as the original pedals they mimic (subjective of course)
