I know you are busy…What this article does for you? It reveals the real challenge in Matteo becoming The Greatest Guitarist and how you can boost your own guitar skills using Matteo’s methods. I’ll keep this short and sweet (about 4min reading time)…

I first grabbed the guitar in 2009. I started this website in January 2020 because I couldn’t do window installation anymore due to my health problems. I love guitars and have played dozens and dozens of different guitars through different amps and pedals over the years, and also, building a website interested me, so I decided to just go for it! I got lucky and managed to get awesome people to help me with my website.

I also got lucky because I have you visiting my website right now. Thank you. I do all this for you guys. If you have any recommendations, tips, or feedback, just leave a comment, I would love to chat with you. I have also been fortunate to produce content for several large guitar websites, such as SongsterrMusicnotesGuitarGuitar, and Ultimate Guitar.

I spend my spare time exercising and hanging out with my wife and crazy dog (I guess that went the right way…).

Look I have only extreme respect towards Beato and Matteo. Not the biggest fan of either, but they both have done some amazing stuff.

You can check Rick Beato’s interview with Matteo here:

The Matteo Mancuso Method: When Flea Meets Guitar?

What do Brian May and Matteo Mancusco have in common?

Long hair? No. Matteo’s hair looks fine.

Favorite guitar is a double-cut? Well, yes.

The key thing some might miss is this. Both have their own tone and the reason why their tone is different from anyone else is the same.

Any bells ringing? (Hint: coin).

Both of them touch the strings a bit differently with their picking hand.

Brian May has his sixpence coin he uses as a pick. It surely has shaped his tone and whole career.

Matteo uses his fingers differently than I have anyone using previously. Kind of a mix of classical & bass playing to me.

This is one KEY reason why many people know Brian Mays’s name and more and more people are learning Matteo’s too.

This is a KEY foundational reason why both of these men are considered, at least by some people, to be guitar greats.

Look. I hope Matteo becomes the greatest guitarist. It would be amazing.

But while it’s always extremely difficult to be great, Matteo faces a real challenge.

If we are having the conversation that he is the greatest…this has to be said…

He is too niche.

Basically, everyone can see him playing and say, “super cool and amazing skills”…but the people who really will become his fans are most likely a small segment of other guitar players.

Just being real. (Do you agree? Comment down below).

So what I think he should start doing a lot more (Matteo if you are reading this…this can make you millions):

“Start doing collaborations with bands and singers who are more popular than you”

While EVH is the legend…you think that he doing the solo for MJ’s “Beat it” had a good impact on his career? You bet.

Matteo needs to start doing the same.

His playing is so excellent that some much bigger artist could entertain the possibility of featuring him in some songs.

Do you agree?

This is the way Matteo.

If anyone cares… I do not personally think that Matteo Mancuso is the greatest guitarist right now.

Everyone Needs More Matteo

I know Matteo has many influencers from Van Halen to jazz to blues to basically anything. But the stuff I have heard from him, you know what comes to my mind first? Dream Theater. That’s one reason why I immediately liked him.

So the first thing you need to do in order to give your playing a little Matteo Stimulant is this:

Learn from the legends: Matteo built his style on the shoulders of giants. Dig into the style of the greats, but don’t simply ape—innovate. Take what they give you and make it your own and even better.

Do you know why some metal songs are boring? Because they are like every other metal song. Again, learn from Matteo:

Genre Blender: Don’t let them categorize you. The Matteo style is a cocktail of influences. There, mix jazz with your rock, sprinkle some classical into your blues. Be afraid of nothing in musical explorations and testing.

For example, I would love to see a mix of metal & flamenco, haha.

And if you want people to remember you….even if you only play 1 minute in front of them…Do what Matteo does, do what Buckethead does, do what Brian May does.

Be Memorable: You have to have some characteristic in your playing, appearance, or in both that basically forces people to remember you. Forever.

I do not know if Matteo realizes that he is more memorable than 99% of the other guitar players. This is 1 reason he is seeing real success already. Congratz to him.

Conclusion

These are some of my humble observations on Matteo and his greatness. I agree, he is already technically an extremely great player. But to be a GOAT, you need something more…Can Matteo pull this kind of stuff off? Comment down below…See ya!

Anything in the arts; music, writing, acting, etc. is subjective. He’s a wonderful player, but there are many great players. I wish him well. Good article.
