Fore years, Yamaha has been providing us guitars that have an exceptional value: price ratio. For example, my Yamaha C40 cost a bit over 140€ and it’s still holding up after over 10 years. I really believe that it will last for a lifetime for me.
But where are these durable guitars made? I have taken some photos/screenshots of older and new Yamaha’s to offer you the best proof possible. And no. All Yamaha guitars are not made in China.

Where Are Yamaha Electric Guitars Made?
Yamaha electric guitars are made in Indonesia.
I tested Yamaha Pacifica 012 and Pacifica 112V this year. And at the back of the headstock, it says ”Made in Indonesia”.

In several online music stores, you can actually zoom on the back of the headstock, and that confirmed it. I only found Yamaha electric guitars made in Indonesia. Here’s a little proof:

Where Are Yamaha Acoustic Guitars Made?
With acoustics, Yamaha has 2 places where the majority of guitars are manufactured. Indonesia and China.
Also, some of the acoustic- and classical guitars, Red Label-series for example are still made in Japan.
And it seems that the entry and tight budget level acoustics are made in Indonesia and the more expensive ones are made in China. Red Label-series made in Japan are just a little bit more expensive than the ones made in China. But most Classical guitars made in Japan are true Premium guitars.

Are Yamaha Guitars Made in Indonesia?
Not all. But all Yamaha Electric guitars currently available are made in Indonesia. Some of the acoustic- and bass guitars are made in Indonesia too.
Are all Yamaha Guitars Made in China?
No. Only some of the acoustic guitars are made in China. Mainly the more expensive ones costing from $550-1200(estimate).
Are Yamaha Guitars Made in Japan?
Yamaha is originally from Japan. But I didn’t find any electric guitars currently available for mass markets being made in Japan. And overall, most of Yamaha’s guitars are not being made in Japan.
But some Yamaha acoustic guitars (Red Label-series for example), premium classical guitars, and bass guitars are still being made in Japan.
Where Are Yamaha Pacifica Guitars Made
All Yamaha Pacifica’s are made in Indonesia (see the photos in the ”where Yamaha electric guitars are made”-section).
Where Are Yamaha Revstar Guitars Made?
All Yamaha Revstar’s are made in Indonesia (see the photos in the ”where Yamaha electric guitars are made”-section).
Where Are Yamaha Bass Guitars Made?
The majority of Yamaha bass guitars are made in Indonesia, especially the ones costing under $1000. But the premium ones are still being made in Japan.

Yamaha Classical guitars are being manufactured in 3 places.
- Entry and budget level guitars are made in Indoensia

- Premium ones are being made in Japan

So, Yamaha has 3 different places where guitars are manufactured:
- Indonesia
- China
- Japan
I don’t have personal experience about Yamaha guitars being made in Japan, but I have experience about Indonesian and China-made Yamaha guitars…
And the experience has been really pleasant. Really high-value for-the-money instruments and durable too. Hopefully in the future, I can get my hands on some Japan-made Yamaha’s!

Good article! I have two Japanese made Yamaha acoustic guitars. One is from 1968, a red label FG110, and an LS10, 1995. They are both excellent guitars, but even the cheapest Yamaha guitars are good. So, does it matter where a guitar is made nowadays? Yes and no. Of course American made, legacy brands like Gibson and Martin, and Fender are always going to bring a higher price and level of quality the less expensive ones can’t. But overall, the Asian made guitars are good, and getting better all the time.
Thank you Jonathan! I also 100% agree with you. Premium guitars usually deliver spot-on playability and sound, but nowadays even cheap guitars can be REALLY good. For example, Yamaha FG800 is a really good guitar for the money. And especially for beginners, it’s spot-on. And the competition also pushes Asian-made guitars to be better and better, and that’s good news for us! We guitarists are spoiled nowadays, haha.
